I have successfully made a Very Scary phone call. Yes.

Must come back down off adrenaline jag. Without spiraling up into another panic.

Thus, distractions. Cat pictures, soothing music, and mindless internet scrolling would seem to be in order. And in a little bit maybe go for a walk.

ETA: And I did calm down! And walked! And I even went and did a social thing, and it was mostly okay and some fun!

And you readers gave me so many lovely things to imagine and contemplate and vicariously feel and listen and watch and feel surrounded in love by. You are the best. <3

Climb on in if you want some strokes. I can also grab a knitting needle if your wing feathers need some attention.

well done! you did an Impressive and you are Awesome. <3

we know this experience you describe very much, lol. *hugs* and *purrs* offered if you'd like them, and here is some of the musics we find soothing:

D Sharp violin-and-body cover of Cheap Thrills by Sia. includes acoustic violin bowing and plucking, hand clapping, finger clicking, and vocals (no lyrics). video features several videos of a human next to each other, sometimes looking at the camera while performing. just over 1 minute.

Bryson Andres electric violin cover of Don't You Worry Child played by a lake. includes a lot of very quick notes especially early in the song, might not be ideal if still struggling with panic-tendency. 4 minutes 45.

Smooth McGroove's a-capella cover of Outset Island from Legend Of Zelda Wind Waker. features many side-by-side videos of a human face sometimes looking at the camera while performing, 3D cartoonish videogame footage (at the same time as all the moving human faces), and occasional appearance of Chill Charl McGroove the incredibly laid-back black kitty. no non-vocal audio, no lyrics. 2 minutes 16.

Estas Tonne and friends - Song Of The Butterfly. features wordless vocals, many instruments including bells, indian/eastern string instruments, western string and stringed-key instruments. very long, very slow in the beginning (and a few other places). video features a few closeup style nature/outdoor scenes, and several humans relaxing together, enjoying nature, and sitting in a room together making the music. they may occasionally look at the camera. includes a few images/video moments of invertebrates (mostly butterflies). various non-monotheist spiritual influences. song is in an unlisted playlist by us of a few other songs by Estas, not all of which are relaxing (but many are). a little under 18 minutes (for this one song).

Subnautica Soundtrack - In Bloom. traditional and electronic music mixed. some underwater sounds. slow-paced with some more mid-paced elements. endslate of video features still art of alien sea monsters that may look unpleasant to mammals. just under 2 minutes of music, video a little longer (silent logos/endslate).

Subnautica Lost River Ambience. very quiet ambient music and sound, features videogame footage and sounds of ghost rays (an alien species of transparent manta-like rays from a videogame) swimming underwater. very peaceful. 2 minutes.

Rob Dougan - Darkside. electronic atmospheric music. very slow and quiet. ending builds a little and the sound becomes slightly more harsh, may be somewhat less relaxing at the very end. video features still image of a face underwater (protruding through the surface) being reflected differently. 5 minutes.

a distracting/stimmy thing to watch if desired:

contact-juggling glowing balls in the dark. 3 balls, glowing blue. glow achieved by UV lighting. occasionally juggled through the air as well as on the body. begins in near silence with the sound of large crystal/glass balls knocking together gently. music includes whistling, lyricless vocals, string and stringed-key instruments. music is fairly serene but not necessarily soothing. camera angle is somewhat limited and the balls occasionally go offscreen briefly. performer is gender nonconforming (and possibly nonbinary) though this is not very visible in this video due to the dark. wears reflective metal on head and chest that also catch the light some of the time. contact juggler is the only person visible, and rarely looks at the camera. 2 minutes 39.

we hope you feel better soon, and the other scary things go okay. <3

The tricky thing about adrenaline is, once your body is hit by adrenaline, you have the physical sensation of being scared (or angry, etc.) and it's evolutionarily useful if you can become scared and figure out *what* you're afraid of.

There are some tricks for distracting yourself to break free from one line of thoughts that can cause panic, but that you've had an adrenaline rush will stick with you for a while so breaking one chain helps, but it's easy to fall into another until the physical sensations are dimmed.

If you're an exerciser, exercise can help - it provides a reason for you to feel energized (so you're not as likely to attribute it to fear) and, once you're done, your body tries to bring you back to normal (which helps tamp down the adrenaline as well).

Um. And, when I go into "let me talk about this mode," it's one of my ways of trying to say "I care about you and how you are doing." Always feel free to let me know if I'm too-frequently offering unasked-for advice.
