So much smoke.

Disaster warnings for these links; first two are to maps.

It is scary. The smoke as much as the fire. Breathing is important.

I'm glad that I have the money to get my van fixed, now, because it's a big part of how I keep myself from panicking at the thought of wildfire. It has a go-bag, it's very easy to toss cats into it & run, & I can live in it for a while, so I don't have to worry about finding a shelter that'll take my boys as well as me.

The world is terrifying these days. I hope we can all be safe, someday.

I think that these are likely wise things. I hope that they help.

*hugs and air filters* I'm so sorry you are dealing with that.

Also, I saw your eclipse report but haven't gotten back to commenting on it. I'm glad you got to see it too, and among all the berries. I saw coverage of when it went to totality over your way and then went outside to see it begin eclipsing where I was in SC.

Fireproof yourself, physically and emotionally, in whatever way works best!

(+) So much fires! We keep hearing about all the fires. And smoke and ash raining from the sky and everything. Aieee.

Did you hear about the people who were being Rather Less Than Sensible in the forest in a way related to some of the fires? (Being deliberately vague to try to avoid setting things off if you would be shocked by it; I'll be specific if you ask. Actually I should find an authoritative source to start with.)

Despair is the enemy; Despair wants us to believe it's too big for us to fight, so we might as well give up.

But Hope refuses to give up. There is always, always, ALWAYS Hope!

Fred Rogers, "Mister Rogers", sometimes had to tell the children who were his audience about bad things that were happening, and give them advice that would help them not feel so frightened. He quoted something his own mother told him when he was a child, and some disaster in the news scared him: "Look for the helpers. There will always be helpers." (And there always are. Even if all they do is hand a bottle of water to a person who's lost and afraid... any act of kindness counts.)

Yes, Joy is another antidote to Despair. As I once said to [personal profile] minoanmiss, when she felt guilty because she was too exhausted to do anything "life-affirming"... self-care is life-affirming, because you're affirming your OWN life! Do things that feed your soul!

Holy crud. That's a lot of fire. (We are one of the few places in the Southwest that did /not/ burn this year, possibly because our cataclysmic fire was a while ago, so I know the feel about raining ash and smoky skies.)

Best wishes for you, and the fire and rescue crews too.
