Via kyleri. (I am not very good at noting where I get things. Sorry.)

A bit of poetry to stoke your fire...

"And of course it’s not fair but rest assured,
anxious America, you brought your fists to a glitter fight."

To resist hatred, make art and music and stories and love and learning and community.

The poem by Hal Duncan linked below was the first thing that made me really feel unfiltered hope in recent months, with its total defiance and unashamed cry of love. It is queer and chaotic and intersectional and anti-fascist. It is not work safe, it has numerous triggering topics and explicit images, and it is worth it. Please. Read it.

A brief quote:

Bring me New Sodom! Bring it! Bring it on!
where shall we phoenix cuckoos
hatch in fire a city spilling out of us
weavework of nest wiring the world
Where?
Here!

Remember: resist.

I found this poem to be excellent, though short, with vivid imagery.

Content Note: Contains reflections on the difficulties of coping with neurodivergence and ableism.

Talking Action: A Haiku Duo

Acting adult is
actually, yes, awful —
and yet, amazing:

at an extreme of
angsty anger - oh. Asking:
“Hey. Are you okay?”

I wrote a bit of self-care advice to myself in the form of a series of haiku. Comments of all sorts (except the jerk sort), including constructive criticism, are welcome. CW: food, home remedies, mention of sources of stress, mention of death of animals, didactic tones (it's not that scary, but I wanted to be through). Read more... )

This grim little poem-something came to me while I was pondering on how to reflect recent emotions via art and/or story. Content warning for scary wintry imagery, death (of an ambiguous character). Additional warnings for my mind being in a very sad place, struggling ahead and hitting some milestones. Read more... )

Draft of a short poem in couplets, fulfilling my plan to update in poetry or fic on a weeklyish basis. Not sure if I like this one or not; critique specific or general is welcome.

The Autumn Comes Uncertainly To School

A leaf at rest on end of branch is torn
Pulled loose by clutch of child’s hand forlorn.

With dragging feet and dancing feet and all
Come littles five years young to line the hall.

The leaves in yellow fall from branch to ground;
The children sing - or wait for songs unfound.

After a conversation on writing, and some thoughts I've had recently about time management, prioritizing, and making room for joy, I've decided that it would be a good idea to update at least once a week in the form of either a poem or a piece of fiction writing in progress. Thus, a part of my day today, in a haiku chain.

*** Gardening Poem ***

Weeds always come back.
A tree of thorns erupts from
under the chain fence.

Sun always comes back.
Three-prong fork scratches the dust
of dry brown mudstone.

Rain always comes back.
Today, water rolls off, oozes,
gone; but soon clouds come.

Decay comes back too.
A centipede, crawling, twine
left buried, forgotten.

Life always comes back.
Seeds, care, time, air, work, luck, earth,
life in the garden.

I went looking for some insight, for a way to shift and rearrange the broken pieces of my understanding of how to live a decent life in a messed-up world. I brought back a poem to write. I imagine that I will heavily edit this later to better serve as literature, message, and/or exemplar of my work.

Right now it is raw. I don't think it even succeeds in conveying the central insight I had unless you follow the same path in your brain as I do when you think about what it means to be part of something truly bad and still try to do good. It is what I needed it to be now today.

I welcome discussion if you want, on the piece as either vehicle of personal insight or as poem. I think it will eventually fission in that regard. On where it came from, what it means, how it could work better, whatever. And if you need to scream at me for my failures after reading it I am okay with that, though I certainly don't promise to encourage it.

Please don't read this if you are in or close to a bad head-space right now.

Content Warning for: unedited dark insights, gory imagery, transfiguration, collective guilt, the impact of racism and the implicatures of white privilege, queer and complicated hope

No title yet although it may end up being something like "Blood Phoenix"

Several late-night poems, varyingly gentle and hard-hitting, selectively quoted. I tried to find two or three pretty or playful things about night-time and being up late, but oh well...this is what happens when one goes on a quest for understanding.
