The bobtail neighbor-cat. Apparently S and I are significantly more skritch-permission-worthy than the mail carrier, which makes me feel absurdly honored.

Crows. They are noisy, ubiquitous, a bit shabby this time over year, but also dramatic, lively, and amazing to watch in flight.

Yards full of flowers. I am not sure it is technically possible for me to be specific, as my impression of the particular yard that I have in mind is "they have one or more of everything, including some stuff I've never seen before." But one I can identify is spiky blue flowers in genus Echinops, probably sp. ritro, known as globe thistles. They have silver-blue flower centers that look like curled-up hedgehogs!

Thank you for reading! You make my day better!

I want to pet a velociraptor. Which would be about chicken sized. RAWR.

...My brain is weird when I am tired.

In the interest of inspiring people to be RAWR, shiny and occasionally brave things:

- Going to the public library
- Asking kids what their favorite and least favorite parts of the day were
- Playing Foursquare
- Petting a golden retriever
- Listening to a video mashup of the Pokemon theme and Lady Gaga - oh dear gods why, but also, why not.

why

why
why is brain
and society
why is money and work and complicated
also why

EDIT TO ADD:

ETA: I apologize for vague booking (vague-DW-ing?) all over the place. Thank you for the expressions of support. While my stress is not gone I am in a better place now.

Lesson planning. What my subconscious mind thinks ought to be my approach.

(Warning: reptiles, failed social scripts for romance, computer humor - it’s xkcd.)

The explanation of the comic is here: https://www.explainxkcd.com/wiki/index.php/761:_DFS .

My subconscious is a TROLL (not news).

On the other hand, look, crows using tools!

Mwahahaha.

No advice needed, I actually am making good solid progress. But I’m tired and my tying fingers hurt and I think I need to buy some beanbag chairs but first I want chocolate.

I am going to be teaching summer school for the next three weeks. I will probably be posting / commenting significantly less often, but I'm not going away. I will try to eventually respond to personally addressed messages. I want to read what people post, but we'll see what there's time for.

* I got to pet and skritch my friend the Porch Cat - the rangy fluffy gray with white paws who always sits in the same spot on his porch - today. I also got to pet a very friendly collie.

Shiny things can be pretty repetitive! And that’s okay. I did new things yesterday, I did familiar and useful but good things today, tomorrow will be different and busy (because summer school is starting) it’s all good.

I got a bottle rocket launcher! And a bunch of really cool books and cooperative children's games and some miscellaneous school supplies, all from colleagues cleaning out their classrooms. But I'm especially excited about the bottle rocket launcher. It is all homemade, came with instructions for building another one, and uses wood and string and rubber bands and recycled bits of metal and an o-ring and an attachment point for a bicycle pump to MAKE THINGS GO FLYING! Woohoo!

So today was a lot better than yesterday, for various small reasons and one big one: the school Talent Show this afternoon.

It is a good tired. And I'm really glad to be done with one thing for the week.

Things are. Thingy.

Shiny today:

Lavender-honey ice cream. It is ridiculous in a good way. It makes me think of the ocean and bees buzzing and my honorary uncle's marble mortar and pestle and my mom's cooking.

The dark red heart-shaped new leaves of ornamental redbud trees.

A golden retriever / corgi mix dog. Oh my goodness she was shaped like the footstool dog in Beauty and the Beast only even fluffier and golden all over.

And I don't want to forget:

A kid saying in a quiet odd voice, "Well, that's unexpected," and then deflecting after I told him I had all day, if necessary, for him. I was there to help with his assignment, and I wanted to know what would work for him to get it done. We ended up talking science in the school garden. :)

Reading good albeit intense stories written simply because people love stories.

Sourdough bread.
