Re U.S. politics:

Trump's ban on trans people serving in the military is incredibly wrong and hateful. I know it's exhausting to hang in there at all. If you can do something, please do something.

And don't be a transmisic jerk. Listen to the trans folks you know, and to trans activists, and to a broad range of perspectives informed by intersectional experiences of prejudice. This is pure hatred, it is evil, and it is hurting people right now.

Further, it is possible to criticize the U.S. military for existing (key part of capitalist colonialist infrastructure, etc) AND object to its excluding trans folks! (Especially given that military service is how a lot of folks have been able to get health care and college.)

Yeah, we've personally seen how the military treats it's own people poorly and destroys a lot of people who go into it. Not to mention that war generally sucks.

But we're trans... and we know from experience that no matter the problems with the military, stuff like this paves the way for further acts of discrimination. It puts in writing the false story that trans people are inferior and "burdens".

(Which we find incredibly funny in this case because they cite the cost of trans heath care as being "so expensive" but we have an airplane manufacturer and air force base in our town... and we know that for the cost of one single high-end fighter jet, the army could provide hormones for every single member of the military... for like a year or something. Not every one who wants it, literally *everyone*. So yeah, that's the real "burden" on the budget.)

Well, one minor point. The DoD said that there would be no change of policy towards Transfolk in the military. Granted, it's currently not a great policy, but at least the turnip-in-charge isn't making it worse.

Mind you, it's kind of a big thing when the Joint Chiefs of Staff essentially said of their CoC "yes, well... he did say that. But we're not going to obey him because that'd be wrong."

Granted, he didn't phrase it as a direct they're sort of in a grey area. But I get the impression that there a lot of people in the Pentagon waking up to the fact they might well have a traitor in charge, or at the very least, the sort of incompetent commander that would get frag'ed by his own side in the field... before he could get them all killed.

Ironically, this might be the action by the Cheetoh-in-Chief that winds up tearing away what support he's had so far. (Now if only Pence weren't equally reprehensible in a slightly different way...)
