In a bit here I'm going to turn off the screenglow and lights, and light a candle. Yay candles.

So along with the many many plans to destroy health insurance access, here's some details on a plan to allow companies to sell junk insurance that only LOOKS like health insurance coverage. Fascinating reading, if you can stop screaming long enough to read it.

For those wondering how to survive the current political climate in the US (and elsewhere).

Our activist elders who are who are trans, queer, black, POC, disabled, different, who are intersectionally oppressed, have done this before. They know how to fight and how to build while under threat. Let's listen.

One resource is this collection of writings:

https://olderqueervoices.com/
put together specifically to highlight the voices of the LGBTQIA+ elders who are still with us and teach us how they have done survival activism and superb art in a time and place that hated them.

I haven't read everything there, but enough to know I'll turn to it when I need it.

I'll be back with more another time...

Remember: Resist. (And remember that self-care is resistance.)

So I decided to write a brief conversation with one of my characters to help me get into better understanding the moments of conflict and change in the story I've been working on for awhile. And, well, Alauno showed up to royally tell me off for leaving her in her current stuck place plotwise.

And also hammer home a message that all the things I'm doing are really part of the same task. Again. (THANK YOU, universe, dropping the exact type of ***beadwork*** I've been doing in also was *more* than enough on top of the *breathwork* during the professional development session on childhood trauma and resilience.)

She got a bit stroppy. Like writer, like character perhaps.

(And oh great, I called myself an writer, I really really really have to get my daily 500 words in all February. Good start today...)

To resist hatred, make art and music and stories and love and learning and community.

The poem by Hal Duncan linked below was the first thing that made me really feel unfiltered hope in recent months, with its total defiance and unashamed cry of love. It is queer and chaotic and intersectional and anti-fascist. It is not work safe, it has numerous triggering topics and explicit images, and it is worth it. Please. Read it.

A brief quote:

Bring me New Sodom! Bring it! Bring it on!
where shall we phoenix cuckoos
hatch in fire a city spilling out of us
weavework of nest wiring the world
Where?

Also, y'all are awesome. So many kitty pictures and kind words, I cannot even begin to thank you enough. The world is so awful lately and I am flat out of good responses but you remind me that it is worth resting and breathing and trying to FIND some. Thank you. THANK YOU.

So, today I’m attempting to compose my gratitudes (and, okay, yes, some venting) in actual sentences. This afternoon, when I was the total stranger looking cold while standing under the rain at a bus stop, someone gave me an umbrella and said ‘I live across the street, bring it back whenever or keep it.’ Small things keep us all going.

Talking Action: A Haiku Duo

Acting adult is
actually, yes, awful —
and yet, amazing:

at an extreme of
angsty anger - oh. Asking:
“Hey. Are you okay?”

I wrote a bit of self-care advice to myself in the form of a series of haiku. Comments of all sorts (except the jerk sort), including constructive criticism, are welcome. CW: food, home remedies, mention of sources of stress, mention of death of animals, didactic tones (it's not that scary, but I wanted to be through). Read more... )
